UNIX to Linux Transition: AMD first used Linux to test AMD-K6R
processor-based
systems in 1996. We started the transition to Linux for microprocessor
design and
verification in 1997. The transition to Linux was rate-limited by the fact
that the Linux
operating system was an emerging but promising technology at that time,
which
resulted in the lack of available EDA software for Linux and the lack of
industrystandard
64-bit hardware. AMD led the way with commercial Linux applications. AMD
worked with Platform Computing to port their Platform LSF (Load Sharing
Facility)
cluster software to Linux long before the market moved to Linux.
Velmi skoro teda AMD objavilo Linux a je otazne ako to suvisi s prichodom
jedenho z troch sefarchitektov Alpha-i Dirk-a Meyer-a jeho asistenta Fred-a
Weber-a a sefimplemtatora Alpha EV5 a EV6 Jim-a Keller-a z digital-u do AMD
v roku 1996, pretoze by bolo celkom logicke, keby si doniesli svoj SW a
svoje prestavy o vyvoji

Currently, all AMD internal EDA tool development is done on Linux for AMD64,
eliminating the need for specialized UNIX hardware
Myslim si, ze je velmi dobra reklama pre Linux, ak sa na nom vyvyjavu CPU na
ktorych sa vyvyja Ferrari. Nemyslite?
